HOW IT WORKS

Simply it uses IP address ranges to scope the collection of detailed hardware and software information through many industry standards such as WMI, ping and SSH. With these communication protocols it is able to query any device for information contained in the BIOS, DNS, IP address, MAC address, TCP ports, MIBs and OS system information, including patches, processor type and numbers.

With this information BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping includes our large database that is used to identify and map precisely the detail of the environment. It also allows you to add customised signatures to discover and recognise home grown applications and their dependencies.

The product is able to then resolve the physical network infrastructure, logical relationships and dependencies of even enterprise applications, with further interrogation utilities. For example, BMC ADDM can discover all components of a SAP infrastructure, including gateway, database, clusters, application servers, Web servers, SAP modules, applications, then map the relationships among these components. Also through Web clients it can select and schedule several available discovery types, such as network discovery, portscan, J2EE WebLogic, IBM® WebSphere®, SAP, Siebel and many others. All discovered objects can then be populated into the BMC Atrium CMDB.

Powerful reporting scripts can then analyse all discoveries on demand or as a schedule. These querying capabilities allow you to make sense of the physical or logical elements that constitute part of an enterprise application, as well as their corresponding relationships.

All queries can be filtered before, finally being saved for future reporting.

Should you wish for a standalone system, then it has all the facilities you need. However if you are looking at moving to a BSM environment at anytime, ADDM can automatically populate its results into the BMC Atrium CMDB or third party application.
